A master piece of writing.

Those readers who have read the adult Wu Shei novels will never fail to know the great name of this famous novelist.

This popular and well known novelist is not only welcome by all the readers, he is also taken by some readers to put him in the same social prestigue and level as our most wonderful Wu Shei novel writings: Jin Yong.

Whether this is true or not, I will discuss later. But undoubtedly, this writer's novels definitely deserve our high recommendations and enjoyment. He has written 1 long novel and 4 short stories. It is this long novel - "Ten Sceneries in a piece of Silk" - that attracts the readers most.

To be a successful novel, we demand a good plot and background, a meaningful theme, a clear cut characterization of the major and minor characters, an excellent choice of dictions to show the writer's command of the Chinese literacy, the structures of the whole novel and a good conculsion of the whole novel.

This story has embodied all the qualities mentioned above. It starts with very breif instroduction of the story which has immediately given us the background of the story: The barren plane blows with breeze while the setting sun is gradually dipping in the west. From here, we know not only the story takes place at a remote part of the northern China, we immediately taste the smell of the famous writer is coming with his high command of Chinese language. The opening quotations of some Chinese poem, even though it is short, has showed not only the writer's proficiency in Chinese, but also indirectly given us the background of the story which is carried forward by two boys and one girl, who grow up together and start to explore the brave new world of excitement which is full of bloodshed, killing, murdering and love.

The theme of the story is clearly reflected in the topic of the novel: "The ten sceneries in the piece of Silk" (translated by me). It is said there are some hidden secrets of very wonderful knowledge about Wu Shei in the silk pieces. Any one who has collected all these ten scenes will obtain the highest knowledge and power of Wu Shei.
This theme is started with series of plotting, killing, murdering and nasty bloodshed. Unlike the other novelists who talk about the hilarious happiness of the main character who has finnaly acquired the treasure, this novelist successfully given us an advice at the every end of the whole novel when the main male character has finally got the secrets of the silk: He questions the Heaven what is the use of having obtained so great a knowledge of Kong Fu on the expense of the deaths of so many lives. Is it worthwhile to do so when so many people have been killled and crippled?

Such a sad and moody ending reminds us the most recent international tumultuous financial earthquake when the banking systems have failed. People of different social levels are fighting hard to scramble to seize as much money as possible, no matter by what means, whether they are lawful or not, they will be happy if they have got lots of money. But very unfortunately, the greadiness of human mankind has finally caused a total collapse of the whole world's economy which has made every body suffer. This situtation is similar to the story of this novel: Whis is the point of gaining so great a knowledge of Kong Fu while so many others suffer. At this point, we must say the writer is very great in presenting a lesson to the readers: Be happy and satisfied when you have reasonable financial supports and do not go too far away to scramble for more money by illegal and unlawful menas. We must give a distiction to the writer's intellectual warning of danger of human nature.

The characterizations of this extremely successful, especially the younger male character. He is not only handsome, he is gentle and very well loved by many girls who are young and beautiful. He has a good character which makes him outshine most of his peers. The characterizations of the female characters are also very attractive. His teacher's daughter, young and pretty, loves him very much, yet she dares not express her inward feelings of love openingly . But unlike this little girl, another lovely young girl, who also deeply loves him, is bold and honest to express her love openly. She is ready to give her body to him. Though she is green in sex experience, she dares to try. And then there is another girl who also loves him has a combination of the characteristics of these two girls -shyness and boldness.

The sex descriptions are very explicit and sexually arousing. The whole novel is full of sex behaviours, either normal or abnormal like SM, lesbians and torturings. The writer has a very high knowledge and skill in using the most appropriate words to descriibe the sex acts which we consider they are definitely unsuitable to younger readers.

So much has said about this writer who has so many merits in writing. But can he be compared to the most well known novelist, Jin Yong?

Personally, I do not think this writer can be compared to Jin Yong. In Jin Yong's novels, we are given themes of broader meanings. For example, in the novel "The heros and the Eagle", we are given the real meaning of a real hero who must possess not only a high moral standard, but also be patriotic. Then in another novel, " The love companions and the Eagle " we are told of the real meanings of guine love - ready to love and to sacrifice - through the love of Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu.

But of course, as far as adult novelists are concerned, I will rank him to be the number one for his excellence in his control of language, theme, plot, structure and especially a lecture to us - not to be too gready and do damage to other people.
